Bakersfield
On June 4, 2009, the Bakersfield Ronald McDonald House opened its doors to families of seriously ill children receiving treatment for cancer and other serious illnesses at Bakersfield Memorial Hospital and other nearby medical facilities.
The three-bedroom facility serves as a “home-away-from-home” for families who live more than 25-miles from Bakersfield Memorial Hospital by providing overnight accommodations for little or no cost. The BRMH also provides day-use services to local residents whose children are receiving treatment in the hospital’s pediatric and neonatal intensive care units.
Equipped with private bedrooms, bathrooms and showers, a kitchen and dining area, a living room, and a computer room, the BRMH provides families with an escape inside of the hospital where parents can find relief and camaraderie by talking with, and just being surrounded by, others in similar circumstances, yet have the comfort of being down the hall from their hospitalized child.
