LOS ANGELES (July 14, 2008) Camp Ronald McDonald for Good Times®, a cost-free, sleep-away camp for children with cancer and their families, recently appointed Tracy Baum as its new executive director. In this position, he will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of Camp Ronald McDonald for Good Times including: financial planning, fund raising, generating community awareness, securing donated goods and services and managing operations.
“Tracy Baum is a seasoned professional who exhibits great leadership and management skills,” said Debbie Bohnett, board president. “He is a great addition to our team and will be a tremendous support as we continue to improve on the services that we provide for children in Southern California.”
Prior to joining Camp Ronald McDonald for Good Times, Baum served as major gifts officer for The Jewish Federation of Los Angeles, a position he held for 23 years. In this position, he managed and directed annual Jewish Federation fund-raising activities and identified and cultivated individual and corporate major gifts sources, resulting in $9.5 million in contributions for 2007. He earned his B.A. in radio/television broadcasting, with an emphasis in management, at California State University, Northridge and currently resides in Sherman Oaks, Calif.
Camp Ronald McDonald for Good Times, located at Idyllwild’s Apple Canyon Center in the mountains of Riverside County, provides a cost-free, sleep-away camp experience for children with cancer and their families. The Camp gives the children a chance to live a more normal childhood while being treated for cancer. Since it was founded in 1982, Camp Ronald McDonald for Good Times has hosted thousands of campers from throughout Southern California, across the United States and around the world. The Camp is supported by its volunteer staff of professionals. Funds are raised through special events, individual gifts, in-kind donations of goods and services, and corporate contributions.
Camp Ronald McDonald for Good Times is a project of Ronald McDonald House Charities® of Southern California (RMHCSC), whose mission is to provide comfort, care and support to children and families in Southern California. To achieve its vision of creating a community where children and their families embrace life and healing with a sense of hope, enthusiasm and joy, RMHCSC also operates four Ronald McDonald Houses, a Community Grants Board and four scholarship programs.
The Ronald McDonald Houses, located in Loma Linda, Los Angeles, Orange and Pasadena—with a fifth under development in Long Beach-- serve as homes-away-from-home for families whose seriously-ill children are being treated at nearby hospitals at little or no cost. The Community Grants Board has awarded more than 600 grants totaling more than $14 million to Southern California organizations that directly benefit children. The four scholarship programs have awarded more than $3 million in college scholarships to deserving high school seniors since 1990.
